A spectacular journey through the rugged landscapes of Northern Spain and Portugal, centered around the rich and vibrant festival of St John in Porto. The riding highlight of the trip is surely the Picos de Europa, one of the most wild and spectacular mountain ranges in the northern hemisphere. Soaring to nearly 9,000ft above the nearby Atlantic Ocean, the twisting bends and swooping passes of the Picos are a delight to experience on a motorcycle. On the ride south into Portugal we will enjoy a two-night stop at our luxurious spa hotel, leaving you free to relax and unwind, or strike out into the hills for yet more incredible riding.
Porto, on the north bank of the Douro River, is Portugal's second largest city. Its magnificent setting, together with a number of imposing baroque monuments and a colorful Old Quarter, make it a highly atmospheric city that guarantees a superb visit. And it's also the location of the world-famous festival to St John the Baptist. This mid-summer celebration sees the city taken over by bright colours, fireworks and dancers. We'll enjoy local street concerts, fire breathing and performers, enjoy fresh-cooked barbequed meat and, the local speciality, sardines and drink the finest wines. Viva Porto! While the festival is the cultural highlight of this tour, it's almost impossible to name the greatest riding experience as we'll be seeking out the very best roads, passes and routes.
